The Lord recognises all those human beings who love Him and speak the truth. He loves those people who cherish chastity, virtue, purity, modesty and simplicity. They who live in contentment and in His will are recognised by the Lord. Guru Nanak Dev ji tells us this on page 763 of the G.G.S. :

" I always cherish chastity, truth and contentment, and my Lord loves me also for my truthful speech."

There are people who love God; there are people who love humanity; there are people love their country; there are people who love their religion and there are people who only love their own self. Love helps to understand the world and make sacrifices for its independence and progress. Love is an omnipresent truth of life. It is the strongest binding factor of life and gives guidance to life. To deny love to life is denying blissful living to life. Sikhism encourages love in the right direction in order to beautify life so that life becomes a garden of colourful flowers. It gives limitless inspiration and exaltation to life.

There are people whose perception is that "God is love." There is no uncertainty about it, but the base of love must be character. Guru Nanak Dev ji gives us this guidance on page 62 of the G.G.S. :

"Truth is higher than everything, but higher still is truthful living."

Sikhism emphasises on truthful Living. The Effulgent Light only shines in an environment that has the fragrance of purity and of cleanliness. Speaking truth, doing truthful deeds is truthful living. From the fragrance of this truthful living emerges ecstasy and felicity that beautifies the garden of life. All living beings are made of the same consciousness. From the nature of this consciousness emerges the choice of one's living.

Love is a gift of God and it should always be extended a holy reverence and never misused. Its purity and piety are the soul of love. In the bliss of love life exuberates pleasure and cheerfulness, joyfulness and gaiety that make life so colourful and fragrant. Your mundane gains may bring in happiness that have no real soul, but veritable and genuine happiness comes from practising revered love. Spirituality, self-less service and altruism are the components of an ecstatic life that emerges from love.

Love also gives life a spirit of liveliness and activity. It gives courage and valour to arise above the ground into the open skies. Life feels it has wings to fly and probe into the intricacies of life when it is in love. Then why should ever one sit and crawl on the ground.

Have high ambitions and desires that will become your wings and fly you into the world of wisdom and enlightenment. Your life will be saturated with senses of sagacity and sageness. This vision in life will encourage our children to contribute enormously towards the growth and progress of life. The needs of today become the realities of tomorrow. Realising these needs of life and working towards their feasibility is genuine love of life and reality.

The language which is a source of power must have the ingredients of lusciousness and amicability. Guru Nanak Dev ji tells us this on page 143 of the G.G.S. :

"Tender speech fosters the bond of love."

He further clarifies the role of love in life on page 62 that life without love is an empty shell :

"Man without love is an empty shell which crumbles down and is reduced to dust."

Hence there is no exaggeration in saying that love is the soul of life, but it must be based on reverence and sobriety. It is a recognition and not a possession. It teaches scarifice and not possession. It is altruistic and philanthropic in nature. It helps to understand life, the world and nature. Patience, endurance, composure and persistence are the contributions of love to the treasures of life.

Even God is realised by love. Guru Gobind Singh ji tells us this fact in Savaiye :

"I speak truly and all should listen that they who love God will realise Him."
