Ambition is the soul of life. Ambition gives direction to life. It keeps life active and focused on making progress towards the goal of ambition. It is angelic in the sense that it becomes a source of thoughts, consideration and cogitation. Ambition gives shape to the dreams and ideals of a person. If ambition is weighty, failures can be overcome. The urge of achieving one's ambition gives inspiration and momentum to all efforts made in this direction. Hence ambition is the soul of life that keeps it agile at all times.
" Accursed is the life which is lived only to fatten one's belly, " says Guru Nanak Dev ji on page 790 of the S.G.G.S. Without ambition life becomes idle indolent and sluggish. Without ambition life has no direction, no goal and no source of inspiration. A person will just eat and sleep. Life will have no temptations, no allurement and no enticement.
It is ambition that allures life towards agility and loveliness. It gives momentum, drive and impetus to life. This activity adds beauty and attraction to life. It mingles with living and gives meaning to life. A person who has a strong ambition wakes up in the morning with new ideas, swiftness and alertness.
Perseverance, vigilance and determination creep into life and the person overcomes all obstacles that hinder his progress and advancement towards his ambition. Obstacles and impediments always exist in the path of life, but ambition gives life enough courage, firmness and fortitude that it sails across the ocean of life safely and victoriously.
At the same time if the ambition of life is based on altruism to serve humanity, it is service to God. My ambition is to be a forceful writer in order to change the selfish and avaricious attitude of man and sow the seeds of piety, sanctity and veneration in the attitude of man. This altruistic attitude of man will make the world lovely and sacred. Man will keep himself miles away from any activity that will create sin, crime or iniquity in this world. With the force of my writing I would like to create a world of justice and righteousness.
Guru Nanak Dev ji blesses such a writer on page 1291 of the S.G.G.S. :
"Blessed are the paper, the pen, the ink and the inkpot ; blessed also is the writer who writes the True Name of God with them."
Guru ji blessed the paper, the ink, the inkpot and the writer who would sow the Godly seeds of justice and righteousness in the garden of life.
The world also believes and knows it very well that the pen is mightier than the sword. Hence with the might of my pen I would like to create a world of happiness and bliss where life will have no fear of any injustice inflicted on her tender soul.
"If my body turns into paper, my mind into a pen, I would write out, thoughtfully, about the excellence of the True Lord. " says Guru Nanak Dev ji on page 636 of the S.G.G.S.
Such is the wish of Guru ji himself which he has expressed on this page and in these words. I would like the rays of Godly feelings and emotions to flow out of my pen. I would like rivers and rivulets, bliss and ecstasy to flow out of my pen and I would like to saturate life with felicity, rapture and beatitude.
People of imagination are rare birds in this world and I would like to be rare bird. I would like my pen to express and sow the seeds of free expression without any fear or avarice. Such a pen is the soul of humanity, and an invaluable jewel. Every word written by my pen will have no inhibition that will deter the progress of humanity towards eternity. Without rendering true service to humanity no reward can be expected in the House of Lord.
Guru Nanak Dev ji makes this clear on page 354 of the S.G.G.S. :
"All living beings are your own creators, but none can obtain any reward without rendering service."
