`YEE-HA! YEE-HA!' yelled Vechara Singh as he whipped the horses as hard as he could. Kamalee was waiting for him at home and he couldn't wait to show her the new horse and cart he'd just bought. He stood up on the cart, the wind blew through his beard and the trees rushed by. He was hooked on the speed drug. Suddenly another horse and cart turned into his path from a side street. CRASH! BANG! SCREAMING HORSES! FLYING TURBANS! ROLLING BODIES! Vechara and the other driver crawled out of the wreckage. Vechara was furious `YOU MAD FOOL DONT YOU KNOW HOW TO DRIVE! IT WAS MY RIGHT OF WAY. I'M GOING MAKE SURE THE POLICE LOCK YOU UP AND THROW AWAY THE KEY!' The other driver said, `Calm down brother. It's a miracle that we're alive! Look at our carts, totally destroyed and the horses are dead too. I am the village Holy Man and I truly believe our survival is a sign from God that we should learn to live in peace.'

Vechara nodded in agreement. The holy man continued, `Look here, another miracle, the only thing to survive the wreckage is my bottle of alcohol. Because you are now my brother I feel I can trust you with my secret drinking habit. Listen, why don't we seal our brotherhood over a few drinks, plus it will calm you down.'

Now Vechara never said no to a drink so he took the bottle and as they talked he managed to drink most of it. Then he handed it back to the holy man who screwed the lid back on. Vechara asked in a slightly slurred voice `O Holy man aren't you going to have a drink ?' . The Holy Man said, `No, I think I'll just wait for the police'.!!!!

MORAL OF THE STORY

Guru Amar Das Jee lovingly teaches us :

`O fickle mind, through cleverness, no one has found the Lord. Through cleverness, no one has found Him; listen, O my mind. This Maya is so fascinating; because of it, people wander in doubt. This fascinating Maya was created by the One who has administered this potion. I am a sacrifice to the One who has made emotional attachment sweet. Says Nanak, O fickle mind, no one has found Him through cleverness. || 10 ||' (Anand Sahib).

The Holy Man was only holy on the outside, wearing orange robes and carrying religious books. But his actions were far from pure. He secretly drunk and used his `cleverness' to get Vechara drunk and hence arrested for drunk-driving. This was just a little story , but our Guru Jee's severely criticised Hindu and Muslim's religious leaders who were holy on the outside but corrupt and crafty on the inside.

Even by the time of Guru Gobind Singh Jee the Sikh Preachers, the Masands, had also become totally corrupt. Innocent people used to come to the Masands who were representing the Guru all around India. The Masands told them that to please the Guru they had to give all their wealth to the Masand, and whenever there was kirtan being sung, the Masands would secretly put oil in their eyes to make themselves cry, so the people would think these are really spritual people who are sad at being separated from God. When Guru Gobind Singh jee found how corrupt these Masands were,he sent out Khalsa Soldiers to go to each corner of India to grab them by the beard and drag them back to Guru Jee's feet. When all the evidence was heard, they were sentenced to death. Guru Gobind Singh Jee's mission in life was to uproot the tyrants and the so called holy men, so that True religion could be spread.

Nowadays, if there are any corrupt people running Gurdwara's, they should remember the punishment given to the Masands for being `clever'. A president of a Gurdwara in Kenya used to take the funds into his own pocket, people told him to stop but he was arrogant and continued. He was struck down with a terrible disease, he was in constant pain day and night. He suffered for many months before dying and no matter who went to visit him in hospital, he would say `DONT STEAL THE GURU'S FUNDS!'

God is reached by being humble, pure, doing selfess seva from the heart and repeating Waheguru Waheguru day and night so that Guru jee blesses you with his Vision (Darshan). Guru Nanak Dev Jee says he prefers the company of the lowest of the low, so don't become a crafty, clever cheating person.
