`HELP! HELP!' screamed the girl, `MY LEG'S TRAPPED...CAN ANYONE HEAR ME?'. Just then she heard `OINK! OINK!', a big pig was looking down at her face as she lay pinned to the ground by a huge tree trunk.
Vechara had been walking his pig on the dirt track through the forest, with his hands in his ragged pockets, just jingling his last 2 rupees and whistling his tune. All of a sudden Pinky, his pet pig, had sprinted off, Vechara thought `O No, not again!'. He sat on the grass and waited.
`OINK! OINK!' squealed the big, fat pig, and pushed it's wet, dribbling snout towards the girl's face. She felt some teeth biting the back of her collar. The pig was tugging and pulling with all it's might, inch by inch it pulled the girl out onto the grass. The pig limped off back to find Vechara. Luckily the girl only had few few cuts and bruises and she chased the pig and noticed it only had three legs. She saw the pig sitting at Vechara's feet like a faithful dog.
`Wow! What a pig you have Baba ji' said the girl to Vechara,
-`Don't tell me, but my little Pinky saved your life, am i right?' asked Vechara,
-`Yes, yes that huge tree fell on me and Pinky appeared like an angel to save me. But tell me Baba ji, what happened to her leg? Did she lose it saving someone's life?
-`Well child, Pinky truly is a Super Pig, once when I was sleeping in a barn full of hay, a fire started in the corner. I would have been burnt to death if Pinky hadn't come and `Oinked' her sweet little head off and woken me up.'
-`So Baba ji, did Pinky's leg get burnt by the raging fire?'
-`No child, Pinky was fine, then another time I was walking through a jungle and I stepped into some quicksand, I was drowning and screaming, when Pinky stood on the side and stuck her leg out for me to grab hold of. She dragged me out. If it wasn't for her I wouldnt be here talking to your sweet little face.'
-`So Baba ji, did Pinky's leg get pulled out of its socket by your weight hanging on it?'
-`No child'
-`So Baba ji, what did happen to Pinky's leg?'
-`Well child, you can't eat a pig like that all at once, can you?'
MORAL OF THE STORY:
Waheguru ji saves us all the time. Wherever we go Waheguru ji is their by our side looking after us at every breath. Waheguru ji has given us our body, our money, our house, our family, Waheguru ji has given us everything. But how do we repay such a great friend as Waheguru ji? We cut the holy hair he put on our body, we hardly ever go the Gurdwara to thank Guru ji for all of Waheguru ji's gifts. We eat the langar but never donate anything. Waheguru ji gives and gives and gives, but we take and take and take without ever thanking Waheguru ji.
Just like Vechara didnt appreciate the great pig he had but started eating it. We dont appreciate Waheguru ji but start saying `I dont believe in Waheguru'.
Guru Nanak Dev ji instructs us to appreciate Waheguru ji by getting up early at amritvela (before 6am) and sing the glory of Waheguru. `Amritvela Sach nao vada-ee vichar' - JapJi Sahib
And Guru Amar Das ji instructs us beloved ones of the True Guru, to sing the True Words of the Guru (Bani). `Avoh sikh Satguru ki pyar-io , gavoh sachi banee' - Anand Sahib.
So don't be ungrateful like Vechara, meditate on Waheguru and sing the Guru's words of Banee every day at amritvela.
