The Martyrs
by Chris Mooney Singh

The Guru spoke with the Holy Tongue
and lit the candle waiting in each mind.
Oneness lives on when the song is sung.

Some lived in jungles, others clung
to the sword of righteous deeds as was defined
when the Guru spoke with the Holy Tongue.

Remember those sawn in two and those slung
on torture wheels fiendishly designed.
Oneness lives on when the song is sung.

Train-wheels screamed, bodies were flung
into history books. They were not blind
to what the Guru spoke with the Holy Tongue.

Some let cannon mouths blast and bang
them to bloody bits bravely beside their kind.
Oneness lives on when the song is sung.

None of us can count our deeds among
those who sang and hung on and were resigned
to what the Guru spoke with the Holy Tongue.
Oneness lives on when the song is sung.
